When to plant?

Greetings, Food Plot Specialist: I have heard best time to frost seed clover is end of Feb. begining of March. Is it any hurt to do it earlier? I also have a couple acres tilled up for me already, since no frost in ground. I suppose early March best time to seed this with clover also. Any time sooner would prob be too early? It could get mighty cold yet, can this hurt seed? Hard to wait to do things since weather seems like March now!

I have "frost seeded" anytime from the first of Jan. to mid March.
DO NOT seed on top of snow!
The idea is for the freezing/thawing action of late winter, to make seed/soil contact. The seed will not sprout no matter if it is seeded today or next month, however if one waits to long it's very possible to miss the freezing nites and thawing days, that help incorporate the seed. Ideal timing is when the soil get's "greasy" during the day, but stiffens at nite.
I like to seed early enough that snows and heavy rains help push the seed against the soil. One of the best frost seedings I ever had was when we had that huge April snow storm that dumped almost 30"'s of snow!

I would say seed anytime now, if the snow cover is gone and try to do it early morning when the soil is frozen.
