YOUTH HUNTERS IN NEED? Late Season Doe Shooting

Howdy, I have heard some people mention how they'd love to be able to take a youth hunter out to shoot does. I limit my land to killing 2 bucks per year so I often end up limiting my own hunting out there on the land.

I have plenty of people to shoot does BUT if you had a kid you'd like to take out for the late doe season (I think it's a rifle hunt but not sure) I'd be willing to make room on my land for that special reason. Do you know of a kid who would get excited doing that AND has a hard time finding a place to do it? Maybe a kid without a dad OR you're his dad and would love to give your son a place to go? I am trying to offer some support for the "tough" situations for young kids who'd love to hunt and have hard times with access. Obviously I expect nothing in return, maybe a picture /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

**Details: Van Buren County, 270 acres. I could put up blinds or help you. lots of does and food plots. You'll see lots of bucks too. Just want to make sure you shoot doe and not a "dropped" antler buck. Maybe no one will PM me OR maybe 20 people will. I have room for a couple SO if you'd wanna do it, let me know soon, I might PM back and say there's too many people BUT let me know. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I just want some kid to have an awesome time getting (or shooting at) a doe, keeping the meat and get into hunting! For some reason I was thinking of this older guy that took me out pheasant hunting for the 1st time (I was a city boy with no parents that hunted).

Skip, that might be something we could take you up on. Our Bullseye Adventures youth mentoring program is up and running, and I might have someone in mind. This program pairs adults with at-risk teens. The ones we work with are kids who have made great progress, and show promise for making good choices. My young man won't be able to hunt til next season. He just turned 15, but we are a pretty new match, and his mom doesn't want him moving into guns too quick in the partnership. So for now, he and I will stick with archery around here. However, there are a couple other kids still waiting for mentors that we might be able to work with. The best time for me would be either late ML season, or possibly the late doe season. We would be using a muzzleloader either way. Chances are that they have not been through hunter education, so this one will take some planning, but I am interested. Could you hunt two kids at a time, if each had an adult with them?

Also, I have a 28 year old man who is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He is somewhat mentally handicapped, but is pretty highly functional, and is able live on his own. He is an avid fisherman, and has mentioned wanting to hunt deer sometime. If I were to bring him, and if he shot a deer, I expect the reaction would be worth about a million dollars. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Let me know what you think . . . and thanks for the offer.

Camoman, that sounds wonderful! I am very open to the obvious ideas you are proposing.

I would be able to do a hunt for 2 people with adults- that would be fine. It obviously looks like a Christian organization which is great and speaks volumes (not a requirement by me BUT that's cool and consistent with my faith!).

If a kid without a dad OR an adult needed an adult, I am very happy to sit with a kid as well.

*I could have been considered that wild and crazy kid who needed some direction all those years ago AND needed some things (Faith of course) to get into, hunting and fishing were perfect fits for me and I'm so thankful people took the time to give me access, brought me out or hunted with me.

Basically, your thoughts sounds awesome and I am happy to offer the land I have as a way to do good for these kids that need something like that!!! **(Late ML or late doe season would be fine which I would assume you can use a ML for that season too).

If for some reason we did have a bunch of people who would want to hunt, if there's any others that would like to take part by offering their land for something like this, please post it!! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Same goes for me...plenty of deer needing shootin' and nothing would be better then giving some youngsters a chance at them.

When Skips offer is full up...give me a shout /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Hey all, keep this post in mind and keep me posted, there's a lot of ways I'm willing to help. *Dbltree is down the road from me, all the bucks are on his land /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Let me know how I can help and further the cause of access to kids that are in "need" of places to hunt and all the reasons I listed above why I am trying to do something good with my land.

Talk around, let others know and hopefully we can help out some youngsters or people with special needs!

You guys are an encouragement to me and others. Today, I took Roy and Marina up to Big Creek to finish up their hunter safety course. Ironwood had taken them on Thursday for round one. They both really enjoyed it, and easily passed the test. I spoke with Roy's mom afterward, and she is really okay with us taking him bowhunting. I'm thinking the gun approval is probably 6-12 months away. Ironwood and I both agree that we would prefer to hunt them from a blind, instead of the challenges (and risks) of a treestand. Unfortunately, my areas don't lend themselves well to blind hunting. We'll work on some options there.

I did speak with the father of the other man I mentioned in my earlier post. He is a great friend, and agreed that taking Jessie out hunting would be just the greatest thing. I have thought a lot about this opportunity, and the more I think about it, the more it makes me smile. He will be taking a hunter education course this month, and could use my ML for a late season hunt. Wish I had thought of this one earlier, and we could have got him an early ML tag for a farm in my area. Oh well, God is patient, so I guess I should be that way also. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I want to sincerely thank so many of you who give in various ways to make hunting a reality for those who are less fortunate. For some, it is the time that you give. For others, it is the financial support of these causes. And as we see here, for a few others, it is the use of their land for hunting opportunities. You may never fully know how much of a difference a 'small' amount of kindess will make. Face it gang, a hundred years from today, each of us will have moved on (i.e. 'died'). I hope that between now and that final breath, each of you is able to make a positive difference in the lives of others. If hunting and the outdoors are your passion . . . use that passion to change lives. Sorry, it looks like I got a little long-winded, and a bit preachy. I'll just finish up with . . . THANKS !

I enjoy reading stories and situations like yours CamoMan, one person like you can make a difference on MANY people's lives and create memories and passions that last AND give spiritual encouragement at the same time. I also think that spiritually this is our duty as well.

On the reality and timing front- you keep me posted on how the hunter safety stuff goes AND timing. I am happy to make something a yearly event and continual. No need to hurry on my end, just do what's necessary and prepare anyway you'd like. The spot is there for you and the others, obviously do things right and take your time and I will do anything I can to help you out!

*I am also donating a turkey hunt a Christian School round here BUT I probably could figure something out for a kid to turkey hunt as well.

Keep me posted!!!
