Zach Lahn

If there weren't double standards, they'd have no standards. Funny how the phrase "My body, my choice" isn't thrown around like it used to be, seeing as that's never actually what they believed. Evidence being your exact example.

They are. Child support. If a women doesn't want a baby, she can abort that child without the father's consent. If he doesn't want the baby, he can't make her get rid of it (rightfully so) and he's then held accountable through 18 years of child support.

And unfortunately 99% of it is the former. The latter, 1) that isn't illegal anywhere. 2) There actually many medical professionals that will tell you there are no instances were it is medically necessary, mom and baby can both be cared for as patients. And miscarriages and all related medical treatments related to them are not abortions and nobody is arguing against them. I cannot believe how many people think they are.

He lives in Belle Plaine, IA. Sioux City Journal had to print a correction after they said he wasn't an Iowa resident and wrote that he voted in Iowa elections in 2014, 2016, 2024, 2025, and 2026 so he's lived in Iowa and has for at least a few couple years, all allowable under the Iowa Constitution, so I'm not sure what the controversy is.

From what I understand, he is divorced and has a blended family, I don't know if it's his current wife's kids or his kids from previous marriage that live in Kansas (not that it matters) that he goes back to support in events, etc. I don't think it's a great look to attack a guy for NOT being a deadbeat/absent father, but that's just me.
I think it says a lot about him that this is the worst thing they can seem to come up with.

The smear campaigns have been really disappointing and weak. Lahn doesn't live in KS, Sand certainly hasn't been a "do nothing" auditor. Lahn's campaign ads get an F from me so far, Sand gets a D simply because I think marijuana should be legalized and taxed just like alcohol but that ad is awkward as hell.

I want to hear what they want to do with the big topics like taxes, health and cancer rates, water quality plans, keeping businesses and young Iowans in Iowa instead of spreading to surrounding states/metros, what they see for the future of Iowa. I hope those ads are coming soon.

Nailed it!!!! Great post!

Get them stoned, make them pliable and tax them into submission. That'll work.

I'm sure there will be plenty of ear candy to go around. Campaign to the center, Govern to the left or right.

Silly how pot still ruffles feathers. Propaganda truly does work.

The reality is we're losing tax dollars to the north, south and east while spending time/money on law enforcement and potentially ruining lives for something that should've been legal decades ago and is legal in some form or fashion in well over half the country anyways. There's bigger issues to focus on and fix. Just legalize it.

So I pay truck drivers 3-4x minimum wage, but like most of the better paying jobs in Iowa they have to pass a drug test. I struggle my tail off to find help. How is it going to help Iowa to make pot more available and raise the minimum wage? Even if you doubled the minimum wage… I could close my business and apply for 100 jobs tomorrow in the state of Iowa for 4x the current minimum wage and I bet I’d get every one of them.
We don’t need more unqualified workers.

You seem to be conflating a personal and industry issue with a state issue. You think the status quo will somehow magically fix itself? Or do you want to increase penalties for marijuana? I think the last 40 years has shows us what a winning strategy that is. We sure won the war on drugs didn't we?

all I’m saying is every farmer, manager, businessman I know says the same thing “can’t find workers, and nobody wants to work anymore “ and not one of them pays less than $25 an hour.
So when Rob Sand says he wants to do what’s best for Iowa by legalizing pot and raising minimum wage I just don’t see how that’s going to fix anything. All he’s trying to do is buy votes from 18-25 year olds with that garbage.

And I would definitely agree the war on drugs has gotten worse. But it’s also gotten worse in states that legalized pot so the argument that legalization is going to fix anything is complete shit.

FWIW, you can add me to that list ^^. I remember when you could put a want ad in the newspaper and have MANY good to excellent applicants. I used to feel bad about not being able to hire a number of excellent candidates for any given job. Now...you are just hoping for someone that has a clean driving record, can pass a drug test and so forth. The "depth" of the applicant pool is like ankle deep these days...it used to be "over your head" deep. Like you, I know A LOT of hiring managers, owners, etc, that say the same thing.

I agree on the minimum wage. It's a "nothing-burger". So little has been done regarding minimum wage for so long that the job market has basically made it obsolete anyways. Even high school burger flippers are making way more than the federal minimum.

Sure but those states (I'm looking specifically at the pacific NW, Minnesota probably) are also literally providing needles, places to shoot up, and subsidizing homelessness (addict lifestyle) so I don't think you can correlate legalizing weed with the skyrocketing addiction. It's been proven long ago that weed isn't the "gateway drug" it was sold as during the 80s. I don't think Missouri has gone off the deep end since pot was legalized? Arizona?

Pot doesn't ruffle my feathers but celebrating taxing it does. Decriminalize it. Are we all losing tax dollars to Nevada because we don't allow prostitution? We're not losing tax dollars because we never had the tax. Look what they did with cigarettes...make them legal then tax the piss out of them. They could care less about what they're doing to smokers, just give them their tax fix. Weed IS the same way. They need to stop government fraud so we can all eat, drink and be merry...and smoke tax free weed if that's your thing.

He's going for the pothead vote and the taxes that goes with it...dude. Hopefully not the fraud that seems to follow.
