Team Old Balls on the board

I lucked out on a solid bird yesterday afternoon, to get our team started. I was almost to my blind, walking behind the fan, just in case. We do the same thing with the antelope decoy in Wyoming, when walking anywhere, payed off several times. 12 steps from the blind looking under the fan, I...

    Corbens 2014 youth buck

The 1st 11 days of youth season was hot and buggy, so we did not start hunting untill last wednsday, as the front was coming. We were hunting a 6 yr old buck that has busted his rack up early every year, a real jerk, and an old wider non typical with bad teethe. He always has big wads of food...

    2014 antelope hunt

Colton, Corben and I just got back from a 5 day public land antelope hunt in Gillette Wy. Our favorite waterhole had a pipeline going in, so we just hunted spot and stalk, with a decoy, all week. I shot mine by following him with the decoy untill I got close enough for a shot. Colton slipped in...

Bird #2 is a little bigger

I finally ended up putting my 2nd bow tag on a pretty good bird, that I have been watching and getting pics of. Over the last month he has caught me drawing in the blind and got away twice, and last week he came into my old stuffed strutter, but I totally missed him. But yesterday, between...

1st bow bird of the year

I had to put an arrow thru this bird as he was doing terrible things to my old stuffed strutter. 19 lbs, 9 1/2" beard 3/4" spurs. Gonna hold out my 2nd bowtag for an old one.

    Big old bobcat

I had to show this guy as my 1000'th post. I always put my ribcages, scraps, old freezer meat and sometimes roadkills in the ditch along my driveway for great predator pics. Love this one... cat chewed on that tree rat for 25 minutes, before going back to the scraps.

    Bull

After 2 months of hunting him, I was finally able to put a good shot on a heavyweight 9 pt, I called Bull. He was a fun buck to hunt, but really had a lucky streak going. Nothing like taking it down to the final hour of bowseason.

What day produced the most bucks this season.

Even though it's been a tough season for most, locating mature bucks, the weather conditions have been great. I was thinking it would be cool to take a look at what day produced the most mature bucks, this season, up until shotgun starts. We'll say bucks 3 years and older. You hear a lot that...

    Colton's 8

My oldest son Colton arrowed a nice big 8. This buck was showing up on cameras all over the farm and was always picking a fight with somebody, whenever I would see him, while hunting. He was towards the top of our troublemaker list, we wanted to shoot. Colton has a Muddy I-phone mount for his...

    Corbens 6 youth tag bucks

Someone asked to see Corbens other bucks he has shot from the lucky field/blind. All 5 years old or older, I believe. His first deer was this doe that he was not patient enough to wait for a broadside shot at. Then he was ready to hunt a big bodied buck we called Chocolate. He looked like a...

Corbens 6th youth season buck from the same lucky blind/field

Corben and I have been hunting this 6 year old 10 pt all week. He was a fighting, one eyed, scar faced SOB. He got his eye poked fighting last year and usually is completely busted up by October. Corben put a good shot on him at 90 yards, did not go far, but took me awhile to find him in the...

How early to plant rye mix

I know the rye mix is recommended to plant the end of august/1st of September, but what's the earliest any of you would, or have, put it in? My deer hit it hard from the start and it looks like a good chance for moisture until aug. 15-16th, then real dry again. I am tempted to get some in this...

    one down, one to go

I was finally able to arrow my 1st tom of the year, by sticking the fan out the window of the blind to get his attention. There were 2 toms together and it happened so fast, all I could do was pick one and shoot before they went thru the blind, they were charging so hard. I had messed with...

Corbens last day bird, thanks to the fan

It's been a tough youth turkey season with the weather, but we had a great hunt today. We used the fan to get close enough to get this last day gobbler. This morning was heavy rain, so we slept in and I just went for a drive at 8:00. On the way back I found 3 strutters and 9 or so hens. Went...

    Then and now

Shovelbucks then and now thread was too good not to bring back. I've been going through some old negatives and converting them to digital format and came across this old turkey harvest photo from around 1981. Still using a muzzleloader and wishing I still had the gun in the older photo. I...

Biggest or most memorable buck you never killed

Going along with Spysars biggest bowkill thread, how about your biggest or most memorable buck you never killed. This is the 1st 200+ inch buck I ever watched grow. He got away during the 1999 season as a nice buck, but grew to around 210 gross in 2000. I won a mloader with a picture from my...

    1st bird of the year

Thanks to Bearcat for the pistols that came UPS yesterday, to fight our sparrow and starling plague. Dang things steal all my dogs food, crap in their water, and all over my tractor. After an hour of shooting cans it was time to hunt. They seemed to know we were armed and would not let us get...

    Chupacabra

I kept the kids home from school today, since they were not bright enough to cancel it, with the storm almost here. Colton and I went out to do a little calling and look for sheds, before they get buried. This ugly sucker came in right away and Colton dropped him with the 17HMR. Did not take a...
