Christmas foiled by another hunter, dang it

So I took my daughter(6yr) out on her very first deer hunt with Dad. We got dropped off and only had to make about a 200yd jont up hill, not to bad. Kicked up about 15 turkeys when we reached the top, bonus!!! I wanted to go another 100yds to the next hill to have a better view, of what I wa...

What late season food sources do they/I look for

Re: What late season food sources do they/I look f With my late evening driving around, I have found them on any S facing hillsides, no matter what the crop. I'm pretty sure Thurs evening, I will be able to put my daughter in the blind with me and harvest a doe, a mature buck I will have to...

What late season food sources do they/I look for

All the crops are out, no alfalfa. The area by Iowa standards isn't hammered during shotgun seasons either. I haven't been out in awhile, will all the persimmons be gone? I suppose this would almost match up to big timber hunting, with out the big timber?? Bean stubble or corn stalks...

    Need your help/opinion.

Re: Need you help/opinion. Sounds like a good plan to me!! I cut between the tendon and bone anyhow, that's typically where my doe tags go now. I process my own so I make that cut for hanging. I've always put them there, so my dumb luck doesn't come into play and the tag gets pulled off...

Looking for a chocolate lab...no kidding this time

Okay so through my research, sitting at work not doing much today, you start the training instantly with the pup, that much is a given. Around 5-6 months is when you can and should start some field work. With the timeline, it seems now through March would be the best time. Apr - Jun will not...

Looking for a chocolate lab...no kidding this time

Darn it, I was hoping for spring not to be the better option. Oh well I suppose that will give me more time to prepare and research. Just for those that don't know I'm in the agronomy area and will have to wait till late spring. Sorta like bow hunting, you get a new bow and have to wait 5...

Looking for a chocolate lab...no kidding this time

Well, back in Nov, we signed the papers and we are now paying mortgage instead of rent. On the ride home, the wife said I could have my dog now. Training wise I'm not sure though, should I wait till it's warmer and hence be easier to house break, but then it will be cold to do any field...

I'm not afraid to admit it...that scared the crap

out of me. So I drop the young drop tine, in the harvest forum. I call my dad to bring the truck down as far as he could which was still 1 1/2 drag through the edge of timber and harvested bean field. I'm only getting 30-40 yds take a knee let the fire leave my legs. I get about 2/3's of the...

Young, but I couldn't let a drop tine walk 11/6

http://www.iowawhitetail.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/26874/ppuser/2840 After a long uneventful Wed, this one came through about 4:30 Thurs. He was about ten minutes behind a 6pt basket. I really had my sights set on a bigger more mature buck, but this one is pretty close to my best...
