Just here to say hunting in MO sucks and is getting worse. Rifles almost all of November. Plus CWD tags are INSANE.
If you get CWD tags, they are valid for any season/any sex. So during ANTERLESS firearm season, folks could shoot FIVE CWD bucks with a rifle.
Okay done venting, back to Iowa
Thanks everyone, this all great feedback! I’ll just respond to a few things.
> You don’t have to punch a tag every year to be successful
This usually isn’t a problem for me. Back before cell cameras and tracking deer year to year effectively, I went 6 years without killing a buck because I was...
This thought has plagued me for a long time.
Current example: I’m hunting a deer right now that I believe to be 5 years old. Roughly 175-180”. Close to my biggest deer ever, I have two 170s.
I don’t really have a reason to pass him, he meets my goals, but then the what if creeps in:
“what if...
Does anyone else get annoyed that the small seed box openings don't have any slope to them? If I am planting a really small brassica plot, I have to constantly get out and move the seed on top of each opening.
Does anyone have a good solution for this?
I appreciate all the great discussion here everyone. I’m leaning towards pass since I’ve held out this long. I don’t think I would personally give the deer what he deserves if I was always thinking “what if” after I killed him.
More context if folks are interested:
* 120-ish acres
* moderate...
Hey folks,
Hoping to gather some thoughts from others in the community.
I have a deer this year that is almost certainly 4.5 years old (3rd year of trail camera photos). My goal for age has been 5.5+ for quite some time now. However, this deer probably scores around 175-180. Potentially my...
Two years ago I set all of my buck posts to private, and haven’t posted any new ones since. It has been so refreshing. I feel like there was a small part of me that was hunting for the wrong reason, and that weight has been lifted.
My soil test did not come with recommendations for fertilizer amounts.
Is there a good way to calculate how much ag lime I would need on some of these plots?
What about P&K and micros?
