I'd steer clear of the northern black hills right now, they are battling a pretty bad fire up near Spearfish and as of last night is only 15% contained. Deadwood is OK, but that is usually more of an "adult night life" kind of place. There are a few things for kids to do, and some history...
I would consider myself old fashioned... although I do have a new bow and a few other equipment. I go to the treestand to enjoy the outdoors, I hunt the way I want to, and I do not give people grief for doing it the way they want. I am also in the stage of having two kids of hunting age and...
find the dogs, knock on doors. You may get a few ranchers that want $, but most ranchers still hate them and you should be able to find a few spots.
If public land is ok for you (if you are willing to walk), check out the online map of public lands...
I know the print you are talking about... Never seen it advertised as 2.5 of the series. Maybe it was just marketed as such at the time he released the print? He used to be at the IDC, I'd ask him this weekend if he still does the show. Love his work.
I watched the "live streaming" event of the measuring today. http://www.livestream.com/pagamecommission
First, I gotta say a huge congrats to that hunter! He didn't appear to get too upset when the score came back way under what they thought it would (ended up tied for 13th in the state)...
I love farmers, related to many and friends with many more. the first question I ask a farmer that complains about deer numbers is "how many hunters do you allow on your land". one I talked to owns/operates on 14,000 acres and he was complaining to GFP... Trying to get 40 depredation tags AND...
Great story!! Whether or not people believe in those kind of things, I do believe those Eagles were a sign. Congrats on a hunt you will never forget! Btw- I wouldn't be able to pass on a 150 cause I haven't seen one! 120s are starting to look good. :)
Snow and cold hit us last night. 5-6 inches of snow, blowing terrible. It's 1 degree out not counting wind chill. saved my vaca hours for this week and now can't get to my areas.
Great idea! I personally leave my steps in the tree and pack my treestand in/out with me each time, or use a set of sticks for one-time hunts.
Idea for version 2... can you incorporate screw threads onto the base like a t-bracket that can be screwed in without tools? That was my first...

Congrats, I've been bowhunting Ft Pierre National Grasslands the past few weeks up here in SD and have seen more chickens than pheasants - hardly any deer.
The pheasant count will be out either late next week or the week after. Honestly, will probably be one of our lower counts in a number of years - but we had record numbers 2006-10.
Best way of putting it... we used to see thousands of birds in one day and could have our limit in 20 mins no...
Just so happens I live in Pierre! The bird numbers are/will be down but you should still be able to find some.
The grasslands has a lot of acres and there are pheasants out there, the biggest problem with them is that the grass gets grazed fairly hard and by the time you get there the grouse...
I'm a member of B&C, P&Y, DU, PF, Delta Waterfowl. Have been members of RMEF, WU and NWTF in the past but for reasons I'll keep to myself am no longer a member.
I also donate on average $5000 a year to these organizations through original artwork donations and print donations. Its my way of...
