I too sent out an email to Willie and Jeff in favor of moving back the proposed season until at least the 7th of January.
I encourage others to speak up as well.
I rattled in a large/mature buck the Friday before shotgun season opened several years ago. The proof's on the wall; under the right conditions it can be done. If your area hasn't been pressured during bow and shotgun seasons, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
SWBUCKHNTR, I think I've seen pictures of the buck you were talking about. I know the taxidermist doing the work. Talked to him last night, buck grossed like 204 and nets around 195 typical. Clean 6x6 with a small fork on the left(I think) brow tine. Should be in the top 3 bow kills in Iowa...
I don't have a lot of advice but I can relate. My brother did the same thing several years ago. 40 yard shot into the shoulder blade with about 5" of penetration. He did not recover the buck until...
First season shotgun, a group of hunters shot what they thought was a huge doe. The buck had...
I contacted the B&C club directly and asked if there was a mimium. Here is there reply:
No. There is not a minimum amount of inches necessary for a trophy to be considered non-typical.
Trophies can show an almost infinite variety in number and location of points. The non-typical...
Thanks for the input guys! I know the fundamentals of scoring, I really want to know if there is a clear-cut number of abnormal inches that must be present before it is considered a non-typical, similiar to what bh24 said.
When scoring a buck for B&C, what is the minimum amount of n.t. antler required to be scored as a nontypical. Is there a minimum? How about a shed antler? When is it considered nontypical?
Just a few questions I want to clarify for a presentation I am making.
Thanks
I think it would be a book worth buying. I read numerous article by Don, and always take something from them. My favorite quote for bowhunting whitetails is one of his from his last article in NAW. "Hunt a wind that is almost right for him (mature buck) and a wind that is almost wrong for you."...
We have the exact tiller here at work, new this spring. It is the best tiller I've ever been around. I tilled some plot alleys where there were waterhemp plants over 5' tall, the tiller reduced it all to powder.
Does anyone know if Brian Andrews ever recovered his stolen buck? This weekend I heard that he had, in fact a classmate/friend had stolen it and returned it. Is this just a rumor or what?
Boyd,
I took an AG Law course last year, hear is a quote from the readings.
Most state statutes have a process that can be invoked to compel a landowner to repair his or her share of an existing fence or erect his or her share of a new fence. If the adjoining owner makes no effort to comply...
I also heard a story about a 230" nontypical killed in the Corning area. The story is that a soldier, just returned from Iraq, went out and shot this monster with his muzzleloader. He tagged it with a doe tag. His story is that the store messed up and gave him the wrong tag(which could easily...
Ill Buck,
It's been my experience that the full sneak looks better on tall and tight racks. Wider bucks don't tend to look as good in this pose. It also depends a lot on where you hang the mount. You need to have the right turn, and the mount needs to be a the right height. I have a full sneak...
T.Pig,
I talked to my co worker today. He told me that if they sold you SuperCal SO4 it will have no liming effect. If instead it was SuperCal 98, it is a true lime. In fact a high quality and 4X cost lime. I bet the FS guy would have sold you the 98, so you should be in good shape. The...
T.Pig,
The actual pH of your soil is 5.7. The buffer pH is a measure of your soils ability to resist change to pH. Some soils will resist more than others. They run a seperate test for this. It is measured by the soils deviation from the beginning value of 8.For example two soils with a pH of...
Also, it is not required to put the name of the county where you harvested your buck. I don't know why they ask anyway, you brought the deer to be scored not to advertise your hunting area. As for being stolen, don't worry. As for care of mounts, I'd be a little hesitant. They dinged one of my...
I was just checking out the www.iowachannel.com . There was a report about 5 guys from around Leon who allegedly killed 52 bucks over the past two years. The DNR confiscated the heads and charges have been filed. Wow.
