2006 Landowner Registration

Thought some of you would be interested in knowing more about the landowner registration requirement that is new this year. I looked on the IDNR site and was still left with questions so I called the IDNR to get some answers.

Here is what I found out.....

1) On September 1st registration will be available on the IDNR web site.

2) If you have purchased a landowner's tag in the last 5 years you will be recieving a registration form in the mail any day now.

3) The registration form will require you to provide the tax payer parcel ID number which can be found on your property taxes.

4) Registration must be in the IDNR's ELL system prior to purchasing your landowner's deer tags.

Maybe some of you were wondering about this like I was...

Thanks Ghost, I was indeed wondering. Now if I can just figure out the antlerless tags for landowners.......

Thanks Ghost. Do you know if you will you be able to purchase the tag when you register or do you get the tag later at a courthouse or sporting goods store?

Since the tags are available tomorrow but the registration thingy doesn't go into affect until 9/1, what happens if I buy my landowners tomorrow?

From what I am getting, you wont be able to get your land owners till 9/1. They wont run out of tags for us land owners so we should be o.k.
Also Thanks Ghost for the Update!

I just bought mine online a minute ago right along with my other tags. It appears that you can buy them today.

Landowner registration will still be required as of September 1st!

I think this should help a great deal. Last year I sold a pile of tags to people I know weren't landowners. It sucks but there wasn't much I could do about it. People's wifes would come in and leave with a whole pile of landowner tags grandpa, grandma, herself, the cat, the dog

.

There will be a lot of pissed off people in my neck of the woods and I'm sure I'll be the one hearing about it. But at least there is no way around it and it's out of my hands.

But I bet Allamakee county doesn't use up all the doe tags again this year.

I guess I'll just have to shoot them all myself.

I'll try to help you justin. Are you having your contest again this year? I'll try to stop in over labor day.

Yeah Chip I'm sure we'll do the same thing as last year. Seemed to work out ok. Hopefully some more will sign up this year. You'll have an interesting season making the long haul over here on the weekends. I'll keep you posted on how everyone is doing throughout the season.

Just curious, but how much acreage do you have to possess before you are eligible for another tag???

"2 or more contiguous acres to acquire a land owner tag" not much of a hunting area, still has loop holes if you ask me.

WOW on the 2 acre thing. You're right that sure is not much for acreage in order to receive the tag, sure are some loopholes. How many extra tags does that mean are alloted in a year?

Well went to the county recorders office to get my tags and asked him how I got my land owner tags this is his quote to me "From now till aug 31st you can buy your landowner tags without registering as a landowner under the new dnr program. When Sept 1st hits then you will have to be registered as a actual landowner with parcel # to be able to buy a landowner tag." Hope this clears some of it up. Basically you can buy if you are not a land owner up to Sept 1st.

Unless it has changed from last year, landowners get two tags (one any sex, one antlerless only) for the issuing fee ($1), then two antlerless only tags at $11 each plus $1 issuing fee (all valid for the farm unit only). Then, landowners are eligible for any licenses that resident hunters can purchase. Confused yet?

Too bad it doesn't go into affect today.

I'd be willing to bet if you buy one and do not register that someone will pay you a visit. I think someone not eligible would be crazy to buy one this year....?????
