Alfalfa

Any of you guys get aphids in your alfalfa? Around here they have to spray every year of the aphids hammer it.

What part of KS you in Tmax? I'm new to KS and I am in East Central. Looking to do some alfalfa plots as it seems to be a good source of year round food.

Going to order some alfalfa from Welter Seeds and likely do a couple plots ranging from .5ac up to 2ac. Likely going to put them in hay fields. Hay fields may have MINIMAL VERY old faint alfalfa. Very little if any. Do you think this will be ok or do I still need to kill it off and plant something else for a season?

What version of the alfalfa from Welter would be best for deer plot?

If u have alfalfa in there…. Gonna be best to start over. It’ll have some toxicity to new plants. Not sure if all would get killed as I’ve never tried it. But will have impact.
If it were me… I’d kill it all and start over.
There is another option as well. If u kill it NOW & waited a month - u might have a long enough interval in there. Usually it’s one full season but - I suspect u could do it now & reseed some alfalfa in late August/early September.

I am going to spray it as soon as weather cooperates and drill in some alfalfa. Looked at it again today and very little, if any existing alfalfa in the stand
