This whole deal just made my day. hahahaha. Sorry but I can't stop laughing. Yall are like a bunch of old ladies. Arguing over spilt milk. hahaha. At least he didn't post this before the season started. My god I couldn't imagine!:grin::drink2::way:

I hope Greg is perched in a tree somewhere and pops 5 deer in the head in one sit down. He will have meat to last him and his family all year.

Amen to that! Then he could change his avatar to a harvest pic with 5 head shot does. Maybe people would be happy then!

Wow,...what a read.

Greg, wish you lived closer bud, you could come with me this morning and shoot any deer you want...as for me, I'm going to shoot a doe, with my rifle, right in the head.

You will be uber mad @ me Greg, just opened a nice buck up this morning and left the heart out there as it was a chest contusion. :)

Ya wanna come to SE. Iowa shoot a doe! I haven't got much land! But!! I own it ! You can give it it a try!! Let me Know! :way:

Sorry for the fetus image if it offends anyone but not like this is a quilting board. I changed my Avatar to show why I am trying to hunt for a Management Buck. Because most of the does in my area carry TRIPLETS! Shoot a buck and you piss people off, shoot a doe and you have no herd left. Notice in the picture, the middle fetus is a buck!

Greg (please post some venison recipes)

Greg: Please post a few of your venision recipes... seriously if you would.
Nothing wrong with venison for the family, we probably go through 2-3 deer a year and we donate 1-2 to relatives. This year I had more requests for deer than ever, I even saw ads in the paper for people requesting a deer. We have 4 hunters in my family and 9 total tags (8 in MN and 1 in ND)...so far we have 4 filled. Late season food plots are full of deer right now, so we should be able to fill one or two more...Good luck Greg, I think your attitude toward hunting is just fine.

Archery95: Seems like you are smack in the middle of every argument on here resident or NR. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are a good guy, but on this site you are always in the "middle" of it.

Greg-
That is some amazing biology, thanks for taking the time to illustrate for all. It clearly shows the potential cost of shooting a doe. Which is good or bad dependent on the area one hunts I suppose.
In your area is it the older females that you experience having triplets?

2 year old does and older are having the triplet but it depents on what they are eating. Two does of identical age and size, one only eating hay the other eating honey locus, apples, corn, acorns, etc. The well fed does always carrying triplets, the other singles.

So.... to close this thread off for the year and let you guys know what happend to my buck tag. I was on private that is adjacent to public ground. Permission to shoot anything I wanted. Late morning I stalked up from the downwind side of a deer bed down laying next to a big tree halfway up a draw on the other side of a ravine from me. All I could see was the ass end sticking out (everything except the head). I moved into position and and took a spine shot. After my shot I ducked down so that any other deer wouldnt see my position.

After the shot I heard what sounded like a freight train rolling through the woods at me. I knew it was a deer coming up the ridge but I couldnt see it. I was right on their main trail. I stood up readied my gun and waited. A few seconds later a huge buck crested the ridge 10 feet from me. Soon as he saw me he pivoted 90 degrees and kept going. I fired a point blank shot without even using my scope, and then another at 20 yards through the trees but he kept on going.

He was the deer that was bed down behind the tree. I checked for blood everywhere but couldnt find any. I checked the spot by the tree, but nothing. I looked around for over an hour checking every draw in the area but could not locate the buck. Im positive that I missed him, as I cannot hit squat firing without my shooting stick and I usually dont even fire at deer on the run.

I would say it was a 10 or 12 point buck but the mass was huge, I want to say 160 class but conservatively i'll go 140.

So how did I end up filling the tag? With a little button buck coming out into a corn field on Sunday night.... He will probably taste better than that big buck anyway. :)

Button buck was quartering to me, neck shot and out the scapula on the other side.
