Drury's

Do they trespass? Years ago we had H.S. set stands up on fence lines that over looked the property that we hunted. There only shots would have been across the fence not on the land they leased. The property we hunted carried nice bucks and at one time had a buck that went 198".Big bucks on film sell DVD's.I do not purchase DVD'S from anybody due to the fact that the money is used to help fund land being leased or bought in Iowa.I know the Kisky's and Drury's have alot of land tied up in Decature county, and The Lakosky's are doing the same in the SE part of the state.I know my few dollars don't make a diffrence, but if we new the direct impact maybe more would do the same.Maybe Steve O could tell us what impact he has seen since he lives in the area?

Man am I glad that I will never have enough money to buy land and have to worry about trespassers! ha, ha

I think that I have an extra $20 laying around to donate to the HUSH program, I will promise to mention ethical hunting on video, mention IA tourism and promise to put down a doe or two! Where can a guy sign up for these Gov tags? LOL

Plus, every year on their vids it seems they always video from "another area of the farm" which tells me they have a ton of land, which also makes me believe that they are not trespassers, why would they have to be? I smell B.S. but I would really like some hard evidence of why someone would come on here and accuse them of being crap hunters. </div></div>

Never accused anyone of being a crap hunter. When you find double tree stands in your timber and your within a mile or two of where they hunt and you have a truck that looks like there on your land and you have Missouri plates. That would be a sign that it may be them. Not %100 but we will know more later.

I agree!

I am done with this post. I thought that I would just see if anyone else has had this problem with a large outfitter. ASorry to get everyone all worked up.

You didn't get me worked up. I'm sorry you had to deal with that BS. I just have a question or two. Did you call the local CO or Sheriff and have them investigate it? If so what happened?

Hopefully it doesn't happen again and if it does I hope you turn them in, whoever they may be!

How many really believe all those people coming here to hunt are doing it to "promote" Iowa deerhunting?

And another thing.............

"Jackie is one of the `deer hunting kings"

I think I'll go puke now.

Im with you on the puking thing, I cant stand Well boys today your going to cut the rope and I will shoot him with a rifle Jackie Bushman.

Just my opinion I dont want to make anybody mad.

Fatboy,
Little late but havent had time to get on here much because it is hunting season and all, but how have the Drury's and Kisky's affected my hunting........................... None! As of yet anyway Now have they out bid the next guy....sure they have. I have never met the Drury's but have seen them around a few times and do know a couple of their pro staffers. (Who are awesome people by the way)
Kisky's ( met them a couple times, was even invited to their house and talked deer hunting with Kandi/Don and Caleb, Don even gave me a tour of his killed deer and the deer he was chasing (Sheds) which really suprised me because of the issues he has with trespassers and poachers) Also talk to a team members of theirs on occasion.

Give you a little history about myself. I didnt move down to southern Iowa until 5 yrs ago. I bought ground out from under people that used to hunt it. Were they not happy with me.... nope. But that is what happens sometimes. If I had more money I would do it again in a heartbeat.... they arent making anymore dirt my friend /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

When I first moved down here, I just started knocking on doors and asking people I worked with if they knew of anyone that would let me hunt. Now I have over ???? acres of private ground to hunt and over 3000 acres of public ground I can hunt.

Also everyone I talked to told me to watch out for the Drury's and the Kisky's and said all this negative stuff about them because of the ground they lease/buy. They would stab me in the back if I told them about anything I was seeing. I let that negative talk get to me and I had a prejudged opinion, which came from everyone else's opinion, and didnt care for what they were doing by taking someone else's hunting areas.

Im glad I got to meet them and get my own opinion and actually hear and see what they go through on a daily basis.

I just lost some ground that was purchased by a pro-staffer from H.S. Specialties. So be it. He had the 1.5 million and I didnt. Congrats to the land owner. Was I upset, sure I was, but I pressed on and kept knocking.

So the only way they have affected me, is in the way of telling myself not to keep all my eggs in 1 basket. Always have a back up plan. Sad thing is, I havent even been on a patch of ground I have to bowhunt but it is a good back up plan in case my honey hole of a few hundred acre's gets leased or sold. Cant fault a landowner for cashing in if the opportunity presents itself.

Also the Drury's and Kisky's put in their home work. They cross the T and dot the I so to speak. Do a lot of work during the season and the off season.

Also about the comment about putting stands across the fence, if I owned the ground.... I would be telling you thanks for the stand.

No law out there stating you cant put a stand on a fence line just says you cant shoot over that fence line.

But what I have learned after meeting 1 of the above groups is that 99.9% of the time, hear say is just that..... hear say.

I hope those that have issues with any of the mentions groups in this thread could meet some of them off the record so to speak, because they are whitetail hunting nuts like most of us on here, they just have the resources to do it everyday and buy the ground we would love to have.

Good day and happy hunting.

Hey Steve, don't sum it up so much next time, give us the long version. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Havent been on here in awhile after all the commercialization so thought I would give the long version in the next few comments.

Glad to here it has worked for you down there Steve. I know the county your in has seen a good jump rec.land prices.I don't have a problem with farmers selling or leasing land,we all need to make a buck.I am also looking at buying some ground for my sons and my future.Like a farmer told me once that god is not making anymore so buy it when you can.I use to do alot of duck hunting in your area and Nanny's.

Fatboy, if your going to duck hunt my area, now is the time. They are pounding the fields. I am heading out tonight for my first dry field hunt. Hope it snows, love waterfowlin in the snow. They come in low, lookin for a place to land.

Haven't duck hunted in years since I sold my boat and canoe. Sold the last of my decoys this summer. But your area was always great for some end of the season hunting. May start again if my son wants to give it a try. Going to try to get him on some deer this weekend since he did not fill his youth tag. Today should be great for ducks with this weather coming thru.Good luck!

You are correct about the land prices, but pretty much the same for all of southern Iowa from what I am hearing. Just amazing what crappy timber ground is going for these days, wish I would of bought more when I bought mine.

If I duck/goose hunted it would be awesome, I have them fly over my house all times a day looking for the lake that is by me and my ponds that arent froze over.

I had a chance to buy some timber by Grand River in the mid 80's after I got out of the service for less then $80.00 acres. I had so much land to hunt around there that I did not think that 20+ years later it would be this tuff to find places to hunt. Use to hammer the ducks on the lake by your place.

Steve, maybe you could introduce me to Don and Kandy. I'm sure that they could use another handsome, charming prostaffer. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Then maybe I could get a Governor's tag every year and not have to wait 3 years to hunt.

I saw a few more than 2 good causes on that list, but not many more. I think the IBA and NWTF tags were good choices. Actually, any organization that is using the proceeds for good causes,ie. youth hunting, disabled, achery in schools, etc., would be 100 times better than giving a tag to Jackie and Bill Jordan.

I am a Bo Jackson fan, but even my old heros can wait 3 years like the rest of us.
