I can't stand it anymore . . . !!!

People . . . please stop it !!! I appreciate being a part of this site, and I absolutely love the stories, photos and wisdom that get exchanged in the various forums. With that said - so many of you are driving me nuts with all the non-stop arguing. Differences of opinions have existed since Adam met Eve (a little biblical assumption, there

). However, there is a right and wrong way to handle that. The non-res/tags/leasing/land ownership debates are not going to go away. I understand that, and can see both sides. But, please give it a rest sometime. And if you can't do that, please be careful what you type in response. One idea is to check your own posts that you have made within the last couple months - see if they are primarily in the 'arguing' threads, or are better balanced with posts in various other threads.

This is NOT an Iowa versus the world site - although it may appear that way sometimes when the non-res issues come up. Maybe it's the cabin fever syndrome, or maybe it's because we're kinda in between hunting seasons. Whatever the reason, I have two requests - please get back to hunting issues that made this site great. And please be civil in what you say here. Sometimes the greater act is to just shut up. That has worked for me here a number of times. And when I do post, I try to watch what I say so that if I ever meet the other person, I won't have reason to feel awkward.

I'm not trying to get warm fuzzys going here, but I sure would like to see some of the rhetoric tamed down. People on this site tend to be VERY passionate about their deer hunting, and that can lead to all kinds of 'interesting' comments.

Final thought - I really don't mind if no one responds to this post. They are just one person's opinions and views. I will be very ticked if you use this thread to take jabs at the 'other side', or to stir the pot on any existing debates. Just think before you type.

Okay . . that's all I have to say about that. Thanks for letting me vent !

Amen!

The resident vs Nonresident discussions are dividing this site in my opinion and also creating hard feelings on both sides. Hopefully we can turn it around soon.

I didnt mean to cause any problems for that I am sorry . I will be making the drive out to do some shed hunting a little later and may stop in at the classic . i stopped in last year and met afew of you . I would have liked to turkey hunt as that is as good as the deer hunting !! First year I turkey hunted I think the tag was 40 or 50 bucks . I am not complaining about it its just a little steep for my household. It really doesnt matter that much about shooting the turkey but I just love the turkey hunts and I had some great ones in Iowa . Maybe someone could answer a question for me could I go along with my resident buddy and call or accompany him while he turkey hunted ?? I believe the answer is no as I need to have a license?? thanks again....treetop

I am pretty sure you have to have a license to do anything even sit there, if I understood my local dnr officer it might be different if you were a kid, but I am sure you need a license, but I may be wrong too

I think that is the way it is also. But I wonder all these guys that make the videos do their cameramen have licenses also?? One year pretty far back I went out and hung out with one of my buddies young sons while he hunted shotgun season that was a while back but I may have been wrong then never even gave it a thought?? ...it would be pretty bad to think you were in the clear and end up pinched by the law...treetop

see there are certain rules cuz one of my buddies did it during shotgun season but pretty much like you are suppose to sit there, you can't help out in the hunt in anyway is what your suppose to do but he printed off a bunch of papers just in case they did get checked he had proof that he knew the laws and wasn't helping out in the hunt in anyway so if it is the same with turkey huntin I don't know I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask a dnr themselves, some may say different than others too, I guess it just depends on the dnr official

Nobber

I emailed the DNr about this myself earlier this year, I was taking my nephew shotgun deer hunting but I didnt have a shotgun license myself. Its up to the discretion of the officer in that county. If they think you were helping in any way they can give you a ticket for it.The suggestion the gave me was to contact the local DNR officer and ask him if he would be ok with you tagging along to watch ahead of time, if he doesnt care you dont have any problem

While I agree that the issue has unfortunately divided a lot of good people on this site, I disagree that we need to drop the topic all together.

In fact I believe quite the opposite. If we don't wake up and realize just how important this legislative session is to the future of deer hunting in Iowa, then all may be lost... Maybe some of you folks that are getting up there in years don't see this under the same light, but if you want to preserve any kind of quality hunting experiences for your children, and your children's children, now is the time to act.

I don't want to be the one saying, "I told you so..."

Geeze I cannot even remember when I posted on here last... I refuse to get into a battle over issues like these because they do not affect me. I am a NR and many of you know me from the Rendezvous, I live a scant 4 miles from Iowa but I have not hunted nor have I applied for a deer tag. I am pretty sure I won't be applying for one this year, not because I wouldnt like to.
Q:Would I like to hunt Iowa??
A:See other threads... apparently every NR (landowner atleast)does.

Q:Will I pay $320 to shoot an Iowa deer
A:Not at this point in time in my life, I have the opportunity to hunt some great land both public and private here at home. Plus my hunting time has been pretty slim the last couple years, I think I have only been in a bow stand 15-20 times total both years. Family, and work take up a majority of my time, that dang duck hunting has taken too much of my stand time too. So when would I fit in treestand time in Iowa?

Q:They why am I a Life Member on this site if I don't want to hunt Iowa deer??
A:This site has taught me more in my 2-3 years as a member than I could have learned in 20. The members I have met here both in person and online would do anything needed if I was in a pinch (see house burns thread).

I realize that this is a trying time right now for a lot of people on this site, with all the legislation being brought to the table. I understand the reasons you are concerned/threatened by what is being brought up. I also applaud you for standing up and fighting to keep Iowa one of the best d&M# trophy buck states in the nation.

Camoman, Being an NR I have to say that these debates leave the me feeling very unwelome here. You are a real Gentleman and I appreciate your comments.

Time would better spent contacting State Legislators through e-mails, letters and phone calls. I know that many have done this, but from what I have read, some of the Legislators are oblivious to the resident hunters stance on the issue. I underatnd that information needs to be communicated here to keep people informed and it should be, but not to the point it has gone to.

I know when I joined Iowawhitetail and later became a Life Member, it wasn't so I could spend my time being persicuted for being a Non Resident. I joined to financially support and be part of a community of fellow hunters.

ummm....where to start?

rack, i know that it gets to sounding like we hate NRs on here at times, but that is not the case. we are just avid about trying to maintain the quality of hunting that we currently have, no offense should be taken personally.

i agree with avid, that our differing opinions need to be brought forward and discussed in an adult manner. we just need to realize that we aren't going to change anyone's stance, but could possibly get them to see our point of view.

and on the subject of NR turkey hunting, our tag prices for those stupid things are outrageous. if you pay that kind of money to come to iowa to shoot a turk, you are either rich, or nuts

Rack,

I would like to believe that the vast majority of members on this site don’t hate NR hunters. With the pending bills in legislation there is some concern by many members re: changes. Members are simply trying to protect the quality of deer hunting in Iowa as it is now. There will undoubtedly be changes and all of us will live with it, good or bad.

Open mature discussion is healthy IMO. Name calling and angry discussion is detrimental and shows a division in the deer hunting ranks and should be, and hopefully will be avoided in the future.

I have always found your post to be a breath of fresh air on this site. I can only hope that you will continue to visit IW and post your thoughts, opinions, and deer hunting experiences with all of us.

I would gladly share a campfire anytime with you my friend, in Missouri or Iowa.

Rack, could you use that in a sentence??No really,I would share a campfire with you anytime too......so long as you brought the beer....

Rack and other Iowawhitetailers(NR/RES.),

i couldn't agree more with you, about feeling like an "outsider" or being hated because i am a NR!! there has been many times i thought about leaving this site due to the fact that it was extremely obvious that i was not well liked, and still feel i am not well liked by a few on here(who knows maybe even more than just a few.) but the reason they they may not like me, may not be because i am a NR, it may be because our personalities, sense of humor, or just the way we hunt don't match up. but there is so many more on here you can get along with!

BUT there are a lot of others on this site that do everything they can to make you feel at home or part of the community, like blake(and many others) for example, and that's what keeps me coming back, plus the fact that i have formed a few great friendships on here and hope to do some hunting together in the near future. i'd love to get together and meet everyone but pry like a lot of us on this site i don't have the money to just pack up and go to iowa and meet everyone!

from what i have been gathering on all of the RES./NR talk is that some people need to learn the laws before purchasing land in iowa. they think that they need to get to iowa every year so they can kill a big buck. first off it ain't gonna happen every year, plus there's big bucks in your state, go find 'em! i also understand the view of the NR owning land and not being able to hunt it, but, but you have to see it from the iowans point of view(but you don't want to see it that way), they don't want too many NR hunters, because they have pry the best quality whitetail hunting in the country, "THEY KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE GOT, AND THEY SHOULD TRY TO KEEP IT!". our bucks here in ohio are just as big as the ones in ohio but we just don't have as many big bucks here as they do in iowa. ohio lets in a boat load of NR, i welcome certain NR, have a problem with it but it does have a certain impact on the quanity of big bucks here.

i myself, am satisfied with hunting in ohio, i don't really have the desire to hunt whitetails anywhere else simply because i know the potential my state has. now, if someone from iowa or any other state(even florida) asked me to come out for a whitetail hunt, i would definetly try to make it happen, just for the love of the sport and being around others as passionate about them as i am, and i would also try to return the favor and ask them to come here.

i don't think this sort of topic should not be discussed but people have to understand where iowans are coming from, like i said before, "THEY KNOW WHAT THEY GOT, AND THEY SHOULD TRY TO KEEP IT!" so it should be discussed on an adult level and not a High School level!

i would like to thank Iowawhitetail and Onecam and whoever else for such a great site. it has been a more of a learning process then any magazine or hunting program could produce. the topics, the people, the discussions, and the resources are top-notch!

keep up the good work!

i still like ya, Rack

Regardless where we live, when we travel to another state to hunt we all become non residents. The states in which we apply for licenses have laws that are currently in effect. When you apply for that tag, or purchase that ground you should be willing to accept the laws or system that is in place. Any of us. It seems the power of "BUY IT NOW" has a major influence in which some people think. I respect the rights of people in other states in which I travel to hunt. I don't know yet how I am going to react when I am approached by a resident of state in which I am traveling to hunt and I have taken the spot his family has hunted for years. I know how I am going to feel, and how they will feel. I will feel about two inches tall. Now I don't think I will encounter this situation due to hunting private ground when I travel, but who knows. I welcome any NR to come here and hunt. I have freinds that do. The word non-resident is just a catagory people fall into when they leave their state, kind of a generic group of people. I do believe being a non-resident such as I am, I will respect the opinions and laws the residents of any state feel gaurantee them they won't loose control of what they already have. I am against outfitters sueing for nonresident rights also.Let your DNR set your regs. This is what they are in the business to do. Debate is good. It brings in alot of opinions to make the best decision possible, with oppurtunites for many people to learn. If I snapped at my kids everytime they asked a question, they would never learn. I beleive there is alot of intelligence and experience on this site and it starts coming out when these debates occur.

The fact that a site called IOWAwhitetail has so many NR members is an atribute to the quality content and quality people who call this place home. I welcome the NR's on this site. We all share the same passion and the only difference is that a river or immaginary line divides us.

There will be times that issues that come up will be backed with a passionate belief but if we would follow the examples that some of our moderators and others have set, we would get by without making people feel bad for the place they call home. I have no problem with posting comments that are factual and informative, but when you post you opinion over, and over, and over, you do little more that make yourself sound like my three year old throwing a fit! Some of you should write down you comments, wait an hour, and then see if you still want to post it. If you post when you are angry or irritated you will accomplish nothing other than creating hard feelings and making others feel that they need to retaliate. Thanks Camoman for this post and thanks to all the NR's and R's that make this site great!

If any of you NR's are lucky enough to draw a tag this year and you're headed through Newton, get in touch, I'd love to talk hunting over a good meal!

Sorry! I didn't mean to exclude the residents.....you are welcome to stop too!
