Only change this week is an amendment by Sen. Driscoll.

Senator Driscoll (Sen. From Iowa County) has offered an amendment to SF553, A bill to allow nonresident family members to obtain a deer license without going through the lottery process.

The amendment reserves 500 of the current 6000 nonresident tags for nonresident family members.

We all need to email our Senator and remind them that they supported a three year study for deer population management. This study was agreed to by both agriculture and outdoor parties. This study is supposed to come up with solutions to the deer population problems and they need to wait until the study is completed before making changes to existing deer hunting rules and regulations. The study is part of SF581 from last year's session. Every Republican voted in favor of SF581.

GO!!!!! Please write in!!!! This was one of the worst bills this year. They are doing this as a stepping stone to launch it next year. Needs to be stopped!!!
 
I emailed my senator but he is awful on all of these deer hunting/outdoor related bills. He has told me several times he wants to reduce the deer population despite him representing no ag/rural constituents. I have asked him what the current population is, what his population goals are, etc. but he has no answer. It’s almost as if he represents special interests and not the people in his district who vote for him. He’s been a rubber stamp for me because of the R behind his name. Those days are gone. I am supporting his primary challenger and will vote for a democrat if needed.
 
Does someone need to update the IBA automatic response because of this amendment? The first two sentences are no longer valid now that they have capped the number at 500 to NR family, in bold below. I edited this myself for my email.

This bill could generate an unknown number of nonresident any sex tags without a quota. This means that there would be no limit to the number of tags that could be issued to nonresidents. There would also be no way for the DNR to enforce who is an eligible family member. This bill creates loopholes for anyone to qualify as a family member. I strongly urge you to vote against SF553 and support measures that prioritize the interests of Iowa residents and our state's wildlife management efforts. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Who is this? I’ll email him &/or call. Or make point to visit at capital. He’s uninformed. Doesn’t understand Iowas deer or the management. Doesn’t understand we have 3 methods to deal with deer now: 1) depredation tags 2) dnr officers with waiting list of hunters wanting to shoot does. 3) LO’s being paid to put ground in walk-in hunting which hunters will kill piles.
Or the fact that the deer population is down 25% in last 10 years.

To the main point…. More NR access, like it or not- will take away from the limited tight access residents have. As this happens- by definition- deer #’s on this tied up land will increase. R’s control deer #’s. NR’s don’t. That’s just a fact. So- by supporting this disastrous legislation- he’s making worse the problem he is claiming is out there!!! This is crazy.

SELL-OUTS catering to outside interests & not their citizens should be primaried out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brad “Needs to be gone” Zaun. What a shame. Don’t take a job where u have no understanding of your constituents & issues. He clearly is wading into the hunting discussion with pure ignorance to the facts. K- I’ll write in & make point to personalize message or see if meet.
& I’ll be 100% honest of course…. I’ll be absolutely respectful if I could talk to this person. But - I sure dont mind pointing the facts out above. & the facts that he’s clearly on wrong side of issue with FACTS not in his favor or understanding. I HOPE it’s an issue of “I don’t understand the hunting landscape, current laws & biology” VS “I’m just selling you all out”. Former we can work with, latter- perfect candidates for losing primary or election IMO. We don’t need more sell out politicians. We don’t. We need less, clearly.

It’s not the “I don’t understand deer/biology” one….
 
Please do not vote for a Democrat! If Iowa flips Dem, we as a nation are in serious trouble . Buck quality will be the least of our worries !!

In Minnesota Dems are adding new gun laws, abortion even at 9 month pregnancy, more taxes, convicts can vote… illegals get a drivers license, literally voting to give away public land and state parks to Native Americans….socialism next !
