Improving Website??? - Ideas, input, suggestions.....

Idea hit me today as I saw some spam crap on here... What can we do, as a whole to improve website. ANYTHING.....
-More info on habitat, hard core buck information.
-Harder on Jack A$$ trouble makers (not saying anyone is but don't know if that's a general feeling?).
-Unique information you'd like that no where else offers?
-More investment into outreach (let's say setting booth up at classic for example)
-Technology stuff (I am horrid at understanding this!!!)
-Getting rid of Sligh1 (dang he's a LOSER!!!)
WHATEVER!!!......

I came to IW back in the day for 3 main reasons: 1) Habitat & passion for land (Dbltree was a huge part of that too) 2) Hard core dudes that "got it" and a core group that could be online to fight for Iowa's survival as a great management state and defending it 3) Seeing differing point of views, getting advice, information, reviews, etc.

With Facebook, changes in general, I know ANYTHING has to adapt, grow and change with time and competition. I have no vested interest in this other than see a forum for conservation, defense of iowa and a online community that has some intelligence with management, habitat, hunting, gear, etc come together.

Any input appreciated! Any level, good, bad, critical, ideas, WHATEVER. GO.....
 
Getting rid of the recent onslaught of spam would be a good start!

Not an improvement, but it would be worth someone's time to summarize and preserve the main points in each of the dbltree threads and lock them. There is so much valuable information in there it is insane. For some reason I fear it could be lost.
 
Good post- really good idea. It has been extremely unfortunate to see this wesbsite today verse what it was back when I first joined. I learned so much from this site - was a sponge with Archery knowledge- learning plots from DT- people sharing without constant bashing and bickering.

1- def no more spam posts
2- enough with anti this anti that posts- more negative conversation posts than positive it seems
3- more interaction- people love seeing others stuff but won't share theirs in fear of others bashing / getting burned
4- interaction would be nice- seeing IW in the public eye would really help with gaining followers/ members. It certainly works for myself and other trophy Bucks of iowa partners

5- people post more in ishi food post- im always hungry :)
 
One minor thing to add to my own post- we need to bring back one "TRUSTED" moderator that would post anonymous trail cam pics. No names ever revealed - no location (moderator doesn't even need to know). This would make for "fun" as we all like seeing em and some are afraid to post em. No ill intent involved- just seeing some giants & having folks willing to share em as they be anonymous.

Dbltrees legacy and enclopedia Better displayed on here. Knowledge & information that will live on and impact folks around country like it already has. That can't start to dissapear from focus and needs to be highlighted to extreme degree.
 
I for one enjoy discussions on various topics, especially ones we don't always agree. I like hearing different views even if they don't go along with mine. It lights a fire on the site for sure, not a fan so much of lude conversation. I don't think being afraid of critical comments or arguments is a good thing. I personally don't come on here for a pat on the back and a "good job" That being said I also don't think there is anything wrong with sharing for a pat on the back. It's nice to have variety, I like the mod for pics idea for sure. Ad bots are a real pain for sure.
 
I do not get adbots cause I got ad blocker on phone and my chrome browser. If u have them- easy fix. If way to get rid of them for everyone- I'm in though. Ideally- be sponsor ads only and that's it. Very light and tasteful. I "suspect" adbot Crap comes with forum designer. No choice. I could be wrong. Curious. Get adblockers on phone and browser though.

Thanks Brandon I like food about as much as whitetails and bowhunting. If I can stay focused the post have only just begun.....so stay hungry
I joined because I want to talk WHITETAILS. The Mrs doesn't want to hear it and my buddies get sick of me talking about it:( so this site is where I get my fix on Whitetails

Figure out how to block the spam!!! Other forums do it, so it can and should be done!!!

Agree that a summary of Dbltrees info would be great!

Enough with the "mine is bigger than yours" crap attitudes. Feel free to disagree but then let it go!!! If you want to engage in a nonstop pi$$ing match, take it to another forum. Most of us are here to learn something and maybe help someone else once in a while. We have ample moderators, why not step in before 13 pages of bickering about the +\- of NRLO? Please?

Along the lines of "mines bigger than..." perhaps take a hard look at who/what we are. Is this Iowa Whitetail or Iowa "BOONER" Whitetail? Comments like he'll be nice in a couple years really discourage posting trail cam pics. Last fall my wife shot a 7 1/2 year old buck off our home place that I had been after for 3 years. Probably scored about 150-155. Not a chance in hell I would post a pic here. Sometimes "trophy" isn't just about inches, but that seems to have gotten lost somewhere. Or maybe I don't belong here.

Making posting pics easier. The cooking thing I could get into, especially game cookery. I may not shoot so many giants but I'm better than average in cooking what I do shoot and would be happy to share. An easy way to post pics would help fuel that thread.

I'd like more habitat improvement before and afters. Like visuals.

A dedicated section or thread of "wtf plant/weed/tree is this" would be nice.

There's a ton of info on creating different habitats, bedding, sanctuaries, edge, food but not that much on how to organize that on one property. Like, "create bedding here on your property and utilize here for your food". I get each property is different just wish there was a way to have people look at your set up and provide opinions.

The last thing I want to see is iowa whitetail looking more like trophy bucks of iowa. If I hear tbi one more time I might throw up. Call me crazy!
 
A permanent thread for weather updates primarily rain fall amounts. Would help guys that didn't live close to the property they own/hunt.

I think making photos easier to upload would help this alot. Not that I have a clue how to do that.

Look up farmlogs. I have the app. Field specific details, I've found it to be second best next to a physical rain gauge

U guys figure out how to do it from phone? "Upload file" and goes to ur phone folder. Make them "full size" imo and not the thumbnail option.
I've got the IQ of a squirrel and I think I have this down. I'll try right now. Here's me from moving pump outta my pond last night. If this pic posts, posting pics is EASY cause that means even I can do it!! Super easy. I'm still learning but this is test in action that this really is brainless easy!!!
 
My iPhone 99% of the time makes the file to large so IW won't accept it. Yes it would be a breeze if this site would upload pics like FB. The process is crazy easy unless the pic file is to large and I think that's what is giving guys fits.
What brand of smartphone do you have? That very well could make a difference. I explained my process for uploading pics in Soils Photobucket thread a few days ago
Now if I copy a memes off the web or upload a trail camera pic to IW it works every time.

I'll try and keep any mention of TBI to my own personal threads - and would advise staying clear of those as I'm sure it will be mentioned since I post a lot of the pics there . Which was hundreds and hundreds of harvest photos and kids first trophies, large and small. That would suck to have that much participation on here. But to each there own and sorry you feel that way

1) Weather reporting part of site.
2) Change direction where we harder on guys just out to be d-bags. POSITIVE.
3) Actions to highlight and advance Dbltree threads
4) Easier way to post pictures
5) More active on spam elimination
6) Arguing and debate is NO PROBLEM, I think we all agree!! ;) Belittling and personal attacks on others - more action, calling out, encouragement, rules - WHATEVER to lower that. We need to do this in a way that doesn't discourage from free and passionate debate. Personally, I don't care if 2 guys get into it, there just needs to be a point where we know "MEN", ok, it's time to drop this and move on. More positive than negative OVERALL on the website, by far. Moderator support possible on this. Guys taking into own hands be better - being called out by Men when Men are not acting like Men (or Women).
7) More NICHE (one of my favorite words in English language) reasons for folks to visit site: hard core knowledge, habitat advice that's top tier, passion for Iowa found no where else, etc, etc. More ideas need to be implemented. Niche: Dbltree, unique things like Ishi's food, etc, etc.
8) things to make safe environment to post pics. Let's say deer for example. 2 examples of "safe".... 1) location, who posts them, whatever. 2) not getting negative comments on the pictures.
9) Get rid of adbot stuff, etc.
10) Banning SLIGH1 (again, just a total loser, D-bag, tool, you name it, he's gotta go!!!!)
11) Outreach. My EXAMPLE is getting booth back at Classic. One of million ideas.

OK GUYS, that's less than 24 hours.... Keep it coming.

Having the ability to post pictures easier would make a huge difference, the app made it extremely easy. I haven't added a photo since we transitioned away from the app.
