I pulled cards this weekend from two cams that were overlooking my two new "rub trees". Some observations...there was little to no actual rubbing on the two "fake" trees, but there was a lot of interest in the low hanging branches and each tree had a decent scrape started next to it and of course, under the best low hanging branch.
I would call the experiment a success, because it is clear that deer were attracted to the trees and we got a fair number of pictures, but no rubbing. FWIW though, we normally do not see a lot of rubs on our place, some, but not commensurate with the number of bucks we have roaming around. Maybe our deer have low testosterone counts or they are just more mellow than some others!
We see way more scrapes than rubs in our area, and I have seen other areas where it seems like every third tree is rubbed, go figure.
Also, going by time stamps on the pics...the first nice buck showed up just 1-1/2 hours after I set the one tree in its' hole. Maybe he was hiding nearby and watching me and ran in once I left. Lastly, we had a good number of pics in the daylight hours too, so hopefully they keep it up, because both trees are within easy bow range...if you get my drift.
