My switch is worse than this. I was wondering the same thing if it is to late in the year to spray?Went to check my first year switchgrass screenings. Not looking to great. I can see for sure some switch coming up, but its pretty sparse. Seems like most did not germinate. Im wondering if maybe I had to much thatch when i broadcasted seed and I didnt get good seed to soil contact. Some spots where I sprayed and it was all dead and thatch still look the same as the day I broadcasted seed, just thatch on the ground and nothing germinated, hardly even any weeds grew back.
Other spots had a ton of foxtail. Is it safe to spray the foxtail with quinclorac this time of year? I mowed everything down to about the height of what was some of the switch coming up. So mostly about a foot, some spots a little higher and some a little less depending on what I was seeing. Other spots seemed totally barren of any switch.
Here's an example of the foxtail before I mowed it down. In person I thought some of that on the bottom right was young switch, but now thinking its just young foxtail.

I've read/watched youtube videos that first year plantings can be pretty unimpressive. But, I definitely thought I would see more than what I did. Some spots I could see some switch for 100%, then other spots what I thought was switch, but not 100% sure, that young/short foxtail was getting me mixed up.
@IowaBowHunter1983 is there a delay in switchgrass seed this year? Seems all of my normal spots are still sold out.
I just marked mine as available for pre-order. Will ship around first of year.@IowaBowHunter1983 is there a delay in switchgrass seed this year? Seems all of my normal spots are still sold out.

Never did update this post. Came in really good. You can see both strips in this picture
Thanks, RobI just marked mine as available for pre-order. Will ship around first of year.
Unlike some of the bigger companies I refuse to sell anything but fresh seed. I talked to growers yesterday and making arraignments to get it coming.
Sincerely appreciate the opportunity.

I’m sure this is somewhere in the archives, but just curious for RC Big Rock, what seed rate for drilling is showing the best results? Seeing different numbers on different suppliers sites.

Small seed box on most any drill. Main seed box on RTP works great as well.Thats alot of switch grass seed, can you plant that variety with a regular drill like the Blackwell?

Weeds hsve to be actively growing.Just mowed my switchgrass. How long before I spray Duracor and it's been a year and I forgot the ounces per acre again. Sorry
Reeds canary ….. atrazine/simazine + ammonium sulfate. U can add some 2,4-d as well. That cocktail smokes it.
U need to kill RC dead as dead gets. Smoke it with heavy gly, ams & oil & above if starting from scratch. If it comes into existing switch stands- yes- atrazine, oil, etc - it does fry it. Correct. Is this still what’s recommended for reeds canary ?
