Improving Website??? - Ideas, input, suggestions.....

The quick reply at the bottom is a good feature. It would be nice to be able to scroll thru all the posts at once, instead of having to click on each page. The ability to see a summary 1-liner under each post with the responder's name. Thanks for listening.

    2017 Year in Review

Multiple elk, goats, turkeys, whitetails, throw in some ducks, a bear, and some good fishing. (I probably missed something in there.) Along with multiple sports and excellent grades. WOW! What a year. I'm guessing you only need about 5 minutes of sleep a day!! Congrats again.

Looks like your odds are pretty good with zero points.

    What do you shoot?

My Knight LK-93 shot like that until I switched to 300 grain bullets. I tried 240, 260, 200, but my gun just likes the 300's better. I also shoot Triple 7 pellets. Never really had issues recovering deer shot with the Hornady XTP, but never had great blood trails either. This post has me...

Zone 4 every 4-5 yrs or Zone 7/8 every 2-3 years?

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards hunting more often. Sounds like a zone 7/8 scouting trip is upcoming!

Zone 4 every 4-5 yrs or Zone 7/8 every 2-3 years?

Oh I definitely have a buddy to split gas and motel costs! We're applying in Kansas this year as most of the whitetail archery tags can be drawn with 0-1 point, and we have zero. Iowa has some nice whitetails, and I think zone 4/5 is known as the better part of the state. Just trying to...

Zone 4 every 4-5 yrs or Zone 7/8 every 2-3 years?

If I do the math correctly, 43% of those with 3 points drew zone 4. (343 drew out of 799 that applied with 3 pts). So not guaranteed until 5th year. For zone 7, it was 37% with 1 point , (64/174) . So guaranteed on 3rd year.

Zone 4 every 4-5 yrs or Zone 7/8 every 2-3 years?

I'm a non-res and have hunted zone 4 3X, the last being 2016, which took 4 years to draw. From the 2017 NR Draw Report, it looks like it could be 5 years before I draw again. I'm considering zone 7 or 8 as it looks like I can draw in 3 years. What would you do? And why? Zone 4 every 5...

    Trail Camera Tactics

I've got 3 on a 40 acre property I hunt. Like some have said, it is amazing that a deer will show up on one camera frequently, and never show up on one 150 yards away. I also have 5 on a rather large piece of public land I hunt in TN, spread out over a couple miles. With these, it helps to...

Emotional attachment to a giant buck, I'm torn, Advice?

I've never had an opportunity at a deer like that. And I've never had the opportunity to watch a deer for more than 2 years. So, based on that, and I'm comfortable with the shot, I'm shooting. But, if I am the least bit uncomfortable with the shot or distance, I'm passing. It would be a...

    Will smoke scare deer off?

The WMA I hunt in East TN has several fires burning last year on opening weekend of ML season. Everything for miles smelled like smoke. We saw more deer, closer than normal, and they didn't seem to smell us like normal. I think the smoke acted as a giant cover scent for miles and miles.

    1st public land hunt

Sit tight and be ready! If the does are moving around you, and the small bucks are chasing, there is a good chance something bigger is not far away. As far as rattling, grunting, and bleating, I've never had much success with it. I know many people do, but I mostly quit taking those in the...

Pics to help u before and after shot.... vitals, anatomy, recovery

For me, if the broadhead gets shot, the blades are trash. Regardless. If it hasn't been shot, I remove them at the end of the season, coat them with a little gun oil, and store them until next year. The oil coating is probably not necessary, but even stainless steel can oxidize/dull in the...

Have You Guys Ever Taken This Shot?

If you had any doubt, and were the least bit uncomfortable, passing on the shot is the right thing to do. Sometimes the questionable shots work out. I'd say they mostly don't. Just MHO.

Have You Guys Ever Taken This Shot?

Tough decision, but an alert deer at 40 yards is likely to jump the string. I say I'd pass.
