It’s been a long time since I’ve been around those guys- Lee was always down to earth it seemed. Drurys were always pretty high and mighty (I was around each crew for about 3 years each)Lee supports us 100% on EVERYTHING we stand for. I can’t think of one issue we have disagreed on and he wants to, has helped & will continue to help. Lee has seen ruined states & does not want that to happen to iowa.
Drury…. Who knows?!?!?! They have never really done much or stood for much. When u take crossbow $ & that level of sponsors & “set for hunting” ….. sometimes that’s the path those folks take. Lee is with us. Drurys pretty silent.
With his track record I’ve left his ballot blank the last couple elections! I hope he stays on our side plus he’ll get another vote the next time he’s up for officeIt was quite the surprise that Rozenboom voted the way he did. Good to see that he is paying attention to the needs of the resource. Was a great mix of people attending who all did great given the 1 min time limit to
I agree. This needs to be enforced..it's out of control now near me.We could try an in season feeding ban as a start. It's fairly non controversial, good way to learn the process. I have a hard time seeing who would be strongly opposed
Lee has been vocal & active on supporting us. Done things behind scenes. I don’t dislike drury at all, just haven’t seen em take a stand for what’s right or support the resource when it’s under attack or trying to be exploited. I sincerely hope they get involved & speak out for what’s right when the scumbags start their attacks.I have more respect for the Drurys. They came well before the Lakoskys. They know the impact of nation wide come hunt Iowa messaging and keep quiet.
I’m sure Lee is a nice guy but come on. You broadcast 200 in deer every year knowing the hunting public yearns to come here, but supports the suppression of that very endeavor?? While it appears they do pretty well with the endorsements, new equipment every year etc. Hypocrisy at its best.
Maybe we need to take a page from Trumps playbook and drain the swamp!
I think a well spoken female hunter would help a lot at the capital. Some of the lawmakers would listen close to a well spoken female who knows her stuff.Lee supports us 100% on EVERYTHING we stand for. I understand what you are saying. Lee moved from Minnesota to Iowa due to the obviously better hunting situation. He’s kind of living the American dream, I’d really hate to discourage that.I have more respect for the Drurys. They came well before the Lakoskys. Fair Points. I don’t think he’s shy that he has a lot of ground & puts no limits on the work, time, $, improvements done. I’d keep this in mind…. The folks who do that is probably less than .01% of the farms in iowa. I’d bet there’s 5-10 guys in “those areas” that have far more hunting & opportunities due to those folks as well. I understand why folks can sour on “wealthy, big land, big name, no limits” when it creates a false perception of what hunting is like here. On the other hand…. I personally think that “energy” or “focus” should go on the 75% of farms in Deer country that are: stomped in & eroded cattle wastelands, kill em all farms, no habitat improvements, no forest management or conservation of any kind, etc etc. TAKE TAKE TAKE all you can off the land & don’t give back. I see tons of farms all the time that produce 10% of what they could just cause they are disasters… farms like that are common in every neighborhood VS the guy managing for a balanced herd & exceptional habitat with abundant sustainable hunting - minority by far. Loosely speaking, my thoughts revolve around how the average farms can be better & how the experiences for the everyday working folks & kids can be better in the future.Live that dream, kill big deer and so on. But don’t advocate on issues that deter hunting in Iowa when you’re part of the reason certain issues and legislation occur. Just be quiet. To me, I’m in the minority here, I view it as hypocritical.
For some hunting in Iowa is like going to a strip club. You can watch but don’t dare touch. It’s been created by resident hunting stars.
How about, like you said in the podcast Skip, introduce a bill that gives the power back to the DNR to regulate hunting in the state? How do we get someone to introduce bills we might like?!
THIS!!!^^^^^ 100% agree. We had it right for decades in iowa until Brandstad sold out to Farm Bureau & neutered the DNR & their ability to function an influence in their field. He silenced them & diverted all the power to the politicians (who almost all do not hunt & have very little understanding of wildlife, biology, hunting/fishing economics, etc). When we pin down the point in time Iowa’s deer herd & hunting went into rapid decline & massive changes/liberalization took place .. it was that time in Brandstad’s term. What he did to our resource is the federal equivalent of what Biden did to our nation. How about, like you said in the podcast Skip, introduce a bill that gives the power back to the DNR to regulate hunting in the state?
I’d prefer it be in the hands of the people/hunters! The ability to vote in major issues/limits/seasons would really help !How about, like you said in the podcast Skip, introduce a bill that gives the power back to the DNR to regulate hunting in the state?
Very true. It’s probably best for both the DNR and legislature to somehow have a say in things. Would hate to give total power to unelected officials. Works out great when you agree with them but that can sure come back to bite you at times.I’d prefer it be in the hands of the people/hunters! The Iowa DNR does a pretty good job, but lots of states have DNR employees that are very liberal and push issues that are not good for the sportsman (Minnesota) as an example !
I have not seen one decision they made that has helped deer hunting or walleye fishing in years. They finally are lowering the walleye limit to 4 (from 6) after discussing it for 10+ years ?
Frustrating!
The DNR is not elected . That’s one of my main concerns. Several legislators do not hunt, and have no idea what to vote on .Very true. Yep. Exactly. Don’t want to give too much power to the unelected DNR is what I meant. They should have some input on things but giving them total power could backfire big time someday. The DNR is not elected . That’s one of my main concerns. In Minnesota for instance two Minneapolis Hmong legislators introduced a crossbow bill, so that their people would have an easier time “shooting game” ?
It passed easy, as the Democrats all sided with them, didn’t want to hurt their feelings. Might have been some Republican too ?
No restrictions, nothing. Fire away.
