OFFENSE!! 2 Bills to support!! SF 293 & SF 247 EMAIL IN!!! What a great change!!!!

Previous generations absolutely loved their regs!! Now it’s not good anymore tho and we better add a few more hoops to keep the bottom down and us on top.

Well no kidding they loved their regs. Cell cams didn't exist. Gun hunting was shotguns, far better access, not everything was leased up, social media didn't exist, NR guys could draw every other year worst case, on and on.

Times have changed.

Have to start pulling back.

LOT acreage is one of MANY things needing to be pulled back on.

This isnt a move to "keep the bottom down". It's crazy talk man

If the shoe fits it’s time to relax and take a break. Don’t jeopardize yourself and remember at the end of the day it’s still just a deer

I totally support the pulling back of regs!!! Would ABSOLUTELY love the regs from 25 years ago. big time!!!! Just absolutely do not support the number of tags available changing for one group without a change to other stuff across the board. One group takes all the new regs/technology they cheered on and yet doesn’t realize the repercussions of their previous actions. Take all the gravy and leave the crap for everyone else.. thats my issue.

Yes!! Who’s the A*hole?? The guy that owns 35 acres and lets anybody hunt or the guy the owns 500+ and only lets a few close friends come in and shoot his leftovers. I’m not gonna say either way and I totally believe it’s any landowners right to decide that. Just sick of the attitude that a few know whats best. It’s garbage. We’ve been ravaged by ehd. Can’t let a emergency go to waste tho. Better scoop up what we can while we have the political cover to do it.

I have my doubts that is factually correct.. I’ve looked. Maybe I need glasses or couldn’t see it. No doubt a certain segment of the population also chose to drive us further into debt and begged the government to do everything possible to not disrupt the economy and their retirement funds. They had no problem small businesses were shut down as long as their 401k’s were good and social security wasn’t affected . They also told their families to stay away unless they were vaxxed and boosted 6 times. Again not everyone but their were plenty that sat there and watched their country go downhill as long as it wasn’t them them suffering all was well
Well for a fact I refinanced a farm in 2020 and it appraised for 2850 an acre and in 23 I sold that farm for 5800. I paid double in 2015 for what my neighbor did in 2010, im the same age as you and it wasn’t easy buying land in my 20s just like it wasn’t easy for anyone at any point in time.

You named Scott Buckley, have you asked him if he would also be willing to give up a tag or are you just assuming he wouldn’t. Just because someone supports this bill doesn’t mean they wouldn’t support getting rid of a third buck tag all together. From what I seen most everyone that supports this bill would also be willing to support one that makes it 2 bucks for everyone, but that’s not on the table right now.

You did well!! Thats awesome! That is a success story everyone should be happy about and realize their good fortune. It shouldn’t be an opportunity to prevent others from the chance at trying the same thing. Covid probably gave you a boost without a doubt. That is not what made land skyrocket since 2008ish or so tho. Worldwide financial problems/commodity prices did, lots of us benefited big time from that. It doesn’t give us an excuse to change the rules and make it harder for the next guy tho

Scott offered to give up 1 tag…. He would generously limit all residents to 1 as long as those owning over 40 acres still got 2.

I guess I just don’t understand how getting rid of a LOT for tracts under 40 acres is making anything harder for the next guy.

I dont think ive chimed in yet on this thread, been following along though.

I'm in favor of the bill as proposed. As little as two acres getting a LOT tag is crazy to me. Its been repeated by others, "what is best for the resource?" I dont think people shooting up to three bucks a year because they have some timber on their acreage behind their house or have a little 2-8 etc acre lot somewhere is good for the resource.

Do I think this is that big of deal or one of the biggest issues facing Iowa's deer herd? Absolutely not. But, IMO it is something that will help. Biggest things to me are we need to cut the number of doe tags by a lot and need help with more/protecting habitat.

I'm a landowner. And in about 20 years of hunting I have only ever shot more than 1 buck in a season one time. I shot two a couple years ago. Its usually zero or one. Take away my landowner tag, Im okay with that.

Booneriverbucks....you been drinking today? You okay? Your posts really seem to go all over the place and sometimes seem like they contradict themselves. Ive not seen anyone on this site, or really anywhere that is older talking down to younger guys. By the way, I am younger than you, and a bought an 80 a couple years ago and I didnt have anything handed to me. I would agree it is harder than it may have been. But hard work, extra hours, side gigs, investing, living within your means and it can still be done.

I’m not even really saying it is. It’s just that the next guy loved every second of buying land and selling it and moving up from 10,20,30 acres and now that he’s over 40 he doesn’t want anyone else to do the same thing. The economy of the times allowed previous generations to start out with an 80 or more. We’ve screwed things up so bad it’s a stretch to believe a guy that has worked twice as hard and has sacrificed way more than I have could even dream about a 40 now

Not drinking! Worse! Driving! Have a few mins at a time. What age do you think most Iowa landowners are??? I’m well versed in the statistics of landowners in this state. Not blaming them one bit but to compare what an average guy could buy today vs what they could 25 years ago is crazy! I’ll take across the board regs any day. Just not into regs that pick winners and losers depending on how much land they own. Awesome you were able to pull it off tho!!!! Happy to hear a success story

No one is going to change your mind, clearly, and your arguments aren't changing anyone else's.

Is your main gripe that people have flipped farms, made money, and now have much bigger farms and in your opinion, those guys are the ones not wanting the "little" guys to do the same? I would bet most of the guys that bought and flipped farms didn't really care about a landowner tag when they were flipping 10/20/40/80/160s. Did some of those guys get to where they are now by hard work and a lot of sacrifice? You bet! Did some of them just get lucky and get dealt a good hand of cards? Absolutely. Did some of them get a little bit of both. Yep! But that is the same thing in literally EVERY single aspect of life.

Ok would you be good with everyone getting 3 tags to make it even or maybe anyone that owns piece of real estate getting a landowner no matter how much the acerage? I think the 40 acres came about because 2 seems like a complete joke, in all honesty I don’t know of many 40s that could withstand 2-3 bucks taken off of it yearly without totally destroying the quality. I do agree with you that we should all be willing to give up something for the betterment of the resource and if there was a bill that did that I think there would be support from the majority of people that own over 40 acres.

In 20 years will you be happy when some propose you need 500+ acres to qualify for LOT privileges and then accuse you of being selfish if you disagree??? I’d support just about anything as long as it’s across the board.. not a fan of cherry picking winners and losers then calling them selfish to silence their dissent.

Alright that's it! I am going to solve this issue right now! From this point forward Iowa is a one buck state! You old greedy bastards with big spreads are going to let younger less fortunate hunters kill your management bucks! You will have to sit with them of course since they probably will take out a young up and comer. That's it now debate over:cool:

Litterally no one has said that anywhere. If they did, post a screenshot and I'll buy you a beer or a soda.

And there is zero correlation to buying or selling land to the topic of a 3rd buck tag.

I don't get it..... at all.

No no no that’s not fair, why does the old greedy bastard get to shoot the big ones and we get stuck with the management deer!!

You left out that you didn’t see $4000 heated blinds over 5 acres of corn & soybeans !
