Anybody do any good in these draws? All posted Thurs/Fri. I cashed 27 points on a Utah Paunsagunt archery mule deer hunt. Dang, sure glad I got some preference points around, because the odds on the random side continue to plummet. Even in Nevada where my 25+ points are SQUARED, my odds decrease...

Well, I scheduled a business trip for a week in NE Missouri last month. Unfortunately, I booked three days to scout zone 5 Fri-today Sunday. Hot, hot & hotter. Multiple foot ailments & heart failure took a toll on me but tried my best. I’m guessing nobody else wasted their time this weekend...
Had to do something after reading demented thread after thread on my other bowhunting forums in support of crossguns and other bad deer management philosophies. Couldn’t take it anymore. This despite the fact I live in Indiana and primarily hunt Illinois where I have a LL.
I support the work...
So last month my company expanded my work area to include the entire state of Iowa. I live in Indiana. I’ve been scouting & hunting zone 5 public for 25 years, but with the hunting pubs pushing zones 4&5, I see the points required going up significantly soon. And with the $50 point fee and...
I currently live in the far western suburbs of Chicago. Got married 2 years ago and wife is moving here from China July 12th. I need to buy us a home but no way in hell I will do so in Illinois or Wisconsin due to the outrageous state employee pork barrel salaries/pensions & resulting highest...
Any nonresidents still not received your tags yet? I'm leaving for my AZ deer & elk hunts in a week, and need to take my Iowa tag. I will likely be on my return drive ~October 1st. Want to be prepared in case of a cold front.
I thought I saw a post on this not long ago, but an archive search pulled up nothing recent. I applied for a NR zone 5 archery tag with 3 points and trying to figure my odds. I thought I read someone claimed ~ 85% in 2015 or 2016. Anyone know? Put in a lot of time scouting public this March...
Anyone else attend the P&Y Convention in St. Louis last weekend? I did all four days and helped crate and load the taxidermy mounts in trucks to return to hunters. I packed up a bear skull belonging to Lee Lakosky. Also loaded the new world record typical elk taken in Montana.
I normally spend time scouting new spots in February, but this year I was busy with my marriage stuff. But I'd still like to get out and check out some more properties in zone 5. Curious if April 7-10 is too late and if it might be too greened up. If I could wait until then I could combine it...
Has anyone seen this new breakdown for NR's the IADNR came out with?
http://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/Hunting/drawing_statistics.pdf
It doesn't seem to make sense to me, unless I'm reading it wrong. If you add up the 4pt + 3pt + 2pt tags issued for zone 5 they add up to 70 less...
My buddy's dad took a cool ~140" unicorn buck near Chariton Thursday morning. Forehead antler is about 6". Hanging in Moravia now. Very cool looking. Great for his son too who has been putting in lots of work setting ladder stands close to parking areas where the dad could access. Elderly...
OMG I know it will be sucked up like a sponge, but I actually saw green on the radar in Appanoose County! I think it was a shock for the Weather.com computer though. The map-in-motion feature was broken.
Attention both Utah residents and nonresidents:
If you are against giving away your public land big game tags to a private organization (SFW) who peddles them off but refuses to disclose how 2.5 million $ of the proceeds are spent……………………please sign the petition at the link below ASAP. Utah’s...
So I'm surfing YouTube for some New Hampshire zone 2C moose hunts when I come across this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D6bWBOPgRE
Now there's some fine guide service for you. These guys go the extra mile, even if it means driving their truck down the forest road that extra 1/4 mile...
Anybody draw any special tags this year?
Found out yesterday I beat 1% nonresident odds and drew a New Hampshire bull moose tag for October 20-28.
Nice dates won't interfere with my Iowa zone 5 hunt ~ Nov. 3-17.
Then just Illinois deer before, between & after these two. Now hoping I...
OK so I haven't hunted Iowa in 10 years. Was trying to find in the regs if it's legal to quarter a deer int he field to backpack it out. That's what I do out west and sometimes here in Illinois. But I can't tell by the regs. It just says you must keep deer intact until it's to the processor...
I and heading over to scout some public properties in Zones 5 & 6 Feb. 25/26. Have heard there was a piece of city owned property landlocked by water & private land in zone 5, but haven't been able to identify. If anyone is familiar with such a property can you please PM me? I have 4 points...
Having been unsuccessful on my Nov. 2-10 hunt, I can possibly return to Iowa the long weekend after Thanksgiving for 4 days. It would be a 6 hour drive but why not? I'm sure not going to kill any P&Y here in Indiana. Have any of you guys had any success at this later time? Would it be best...
My buddy and I will be hunting in Iowa from Nov. 2-10. Trying a few public ground areas from Drakesville to the far western portions of Rathbun, all of northern Appanoose County. Camping at Honey Creek State Park.
Last time we drew was 99 & 00, and we had many problems with pheasant and...
